Experience

I have had a lot of experience in Brookline’s Town Government and in community groups. I have been elected to several leadership positions, including chair of the Advisory Committee, president of the Brookline GreenSpace Alliance, and co-chair of the Brookline Neighborhood Alliance. This experience has taught me a lot about how Brookline’s government works and how the various departments operate, as well as the important aspects of many issues confronting the town. It also has enabled me to get to know many of the key officials and community leaders who work hard to make Brookline a great place to live. I have been able to use this experience to be a more effective advocate for Precinct 1, to influence the outcome of votes in Town Meeting, and to make more informed and thoughtful decisions when I vote at Town Meeting

Brookline Town Government

I have been a Precinct 1 Town Meeting member since 2011. I also serve on the Committee on Town Organization and Structure, a small standing committee that considers questions related to the structure of town government (e.g., should a new commission or office be created?) and makes recommendations to Town Meeting.

I have served on many other town committees. I was a member of the Advisory Committee from 2003 until 2019. The Advisory Committee is Brookline’s Finance Committee. It reviews and proposes the annual Town budget, and also makes recommendations on the warrant articles that are considered by Town Meeting. I was chair of the Advisory Committee between 2015 – 2019. I previously served as chair of Advisory Committee subcommittees on schools, planning and regulation, and long-term planning and policies.

I also have served on committees appointed by the Select Board or moderator, including committees on short-term rentals, public hearings (chair), and parking, Coolidge Corner streetscapes, elementary school world language instruction, and the Zoning Bylaw Committee, which no longer exists. I was a member of a Focus Area Work Group for the Comprehensive Plan that Brookline adopted in 2004. I also served on two Monmouth Park Design Review Committees appointed by the Park and Recreation Commission, most recently in 2024.

Other Government

Since 2023, I have been a member of the Maintenance and Management Oversight Committee (MMOC) for the Muddy River Restoration Project.

Community and Civic Groups

In addition to serving on government committees, I have been active in many Brookline community and civic groups.

I am currently the president of the Brookline GreenSpace Alliance, a nonprofit organization that has three purposes. First, it serves as an advocate for parks and open space. Second, it works to educate the public about parks, nature, and the environment by conducting guided walks and other activities in Brookline’s green spaces, publishing a magazine (PLACE), and holding meetings. Third, it works to inform and assist the many park friends groups in Brookline.

I also have been involved in the Friends of Monmouth Park, the Friends of the Carlton Street Footbridge, and the Friends of Hall’s Pond. I am a member of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy Park Advisors.

I previously served as co-chair of the Brookline Neighborhood Alliance, and I am currently a member of its Executive Board.

I am an elected member of the Brookline Democratic Town Committee, a member of the League of Women Voters of Brookline, and a Life Member of the Brookline Historical Society.

When my daughter was playing youth soccer, I was a coach for the Brookline Soccer Club. When she was at Lawrence School, I served on the board of the Lawrence Extended Day Program (LEDP).
